What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?

A true dental emergency consists of constant pain with or without swelling. When this occurs the nerve becomes permanently damaged and begins to "die". Infection begins inside the tooth and swelling occurs, which can spread to other teeth and tissue. At that time there are 2 treatment options: A root canal or an extraction. The pain associated with this event will last for long periods of time, will wake a person out of sleep, and will be "throbbing" and in "waves" of pain.
